NEW ORLEANS — The city of New Orleans has surpassed more than 100 murders this year.

New Orleans has recorded 110 homicides as of Monday morning.

This is the fastest the city has reached 100 murders since before Hurricane Katrina.

According to the Metropolitan Crime Commission, the last time 100 murders were recorded this early in the year was in 2004.

Last year 218 people were killed in New Orleans. The lowest total New Orleans has seen in decades was in 2019.

In 2019, the city recorded 120 total homicides.
