NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New data from the Metropolitan Crime Commission shows violent crime is down across New Orleans compared to last year.

The group says 28 fewer people have been killed so far this year, and non-fatal shootings are down about 11 percent.

Carjackings also dropped 6 percent year-to-date, and are down 84 percent compared to 2022.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill says she’s seeing a real shift, with local and federal agencies working more closely together to fight crime.

Despite the improvement, the MCC says a major violent crime has been reported this year in every New Orleans police district, with most of the incidents happening in the French Quarter and the CBD.
