A woman was carjacked near the Lafitte Greenway on Tuesday afternoon (June 21), the New Orleans Police Department reported.

She was walking to her vehicle in the 2100 block of Lafitte Street at about 3:55 p.m. when a man approached her from behind. He grabbed the keys from her hand, got in her gray 2008 Chevy Impala and drove off.

The incident was the 19th carjacking reported in the NOPD First District so far in 2022, according to data from the Metropolitan Crime Commission. The First District, which includes Treme and most of Mid-City and Faubourg St. John, has seen a 50% increase in carjackings this year over 2021, MCC data shows.
